1995 Montreal Footbag Championships – Results – Videos

The 1995 Montreal Championships were packed with a total of 81 players. Most of them were locals but many came from the USA, notably a 30 something delegation from the now defunct Albany Footbag Club. Footbag greats Tuan Vu, Eric Wulff, Peter Irish, Carol Wedemeyer and Lisa Monti were amongst the guests of honor. This was a combined net and freestyle tournament, and the freestyle finals part encountered some pretty harsh conditions. Unfortunately, rain showed up just during these finals and some had more trouble than others with the conditions as some pretty heavy wind also complicated things for the players. Peter Irish won singles and, with the help of Eric Wulff, he also grabbed the team freestyle event gold. 

The rain stopped just in time for the net finals which offered some intense playing. Sébastien Verdy took 1st in open singles, defeating Manu Bouchard. In doubles, Bouchard and Yves Archambault won over Martin Côté and Martin Graton, the famous M&M’s.

Overall, big fun was had by all.

Why are the results incomplete? 

In the early days of footbag, the results were published in the Footbag World magazine, there was only one page per issue that was reserved for results in the mag, so space was tight. For that reason, most of the results that were published covered only 3 positions. If the paperwork was lost, it was almost impossible to recover the entire results. This is the case with this tournament.
