The 2003 World Footbag Championships: Exploring new territories

The World Footbag Championships are presented in Europe for the very first time, in Prague, Czech Republic to be precise. Young local prodigy Vasek Klouda caps off an extraordinary week by winning the singles routines competition. The energy level was insane, all the players were excited to compete at a Worlds in Europe. That year also launched a new footbag freestyle era, to be dominated by Czech players, especially Vasek Klouda. Although he won the routines in 2002, he still had to repeat, under pressure, in his own country, and he did, brilliantly. As some were questioning his win in the 2002 finals, his performance in 2003 left no room for doubt.Vasek made sure to write his name in Footbag history by winning doubles and Shred 30 as well.

On the women’s side, Carol Wedemeyer won yet another singles routines title while Samantha Conlon grabbed another mixed doubles routines 1st place. (Not filmed, due to schedule conflicts with my net competition)

This video recollection depicts some moments of  the freestyle competition.

Trailer – Vasek Klouda

What better than Vasek Klouda performing his finals routine in Prague to give us an idea of the crazyness surrounding this tournament’s freestyle contest? The ”Golden Child” is presumbaly the best footbag freestyler of all times and he proved it that year by dominating all his opponents with a fantastic dropless routine in the finals. Here’s an excerpt of that virtuosity.
