2012 World Footbag Championships Freestyle – NET
2012 set a precedent in footbag’s history as it was the first time that the World Footbag Championships were presented in Poland. The new (at the time) president of the IFPA – International Footbag Players Association – Wiktor Debski did a good job in bringing the tournament to his country.
33rd IFPA WORLD FOOTBAG CHAMPIONSHIPS
July 29-August 4, 2012
University of Physical Education in Warsaw, Poland
Freestyle Finals
The 2012 Worlds freestyle competition crowned the usual suspects in the open singles events.
Jan ”Honza” Weber took 1st in routines, and Sick 3, as well he traded places with Milan Benda (1st) in the Circle contest (Honza 2nd). Milan had a good tournament too as he added second spots on the podium in routines, shred 30 and sick 3. Aleksi Airinen prevented the Czechs from picking all the gold medals as he provided Finland with a win in Shred 30.
On the women’s side, Tina Aeberli’s return after missing the 2011 edition, didn’t leave any room for the others on the first step of the podium. Tina won the women’s routines, circle and shred 30. Hanna Mickiewicz (2), and Tanja Salakka (3) took the second and third places in the 3 events.
In the team events, the Polish players garnered both the available titles. In the Open doubles routines, Michał & Tomasz Ostrowski beat the winners of the previous edition, Tomas Tucek & Martin Sládek from the Czech Republic. Additionally, Wiktor Dębski & Gosia Dębska won the Mixed Doubles routines for a second year in a row.
